Simone Borghesi ha pubblicato con Andrea Flori (Politecnico di Milano) sulla rivista open-access PLOS ONE un articolo dal titolo "With or without U(K): a pre-Brexit network analysis of the EU ETS" (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0221587) sulle possibili conseguenze della Brexit per le politiche ambientali dell'Unione Europea. L'articolo si focalizza sull'impatto che un'eventuale Brexit dura potrebbe avere sul principale strumento di politica ambientale europeo, il mercato delle emissioni di carbonio. Usando la teoria delle reti, gli autori mostrano che tale mercato avrebbe avuto una configurazione totalmente diversa senza il Regno Unito che in questi anni ha svolto un ruolo centrale come hub del mercato, e che la Brexit potrebbe comportare una profonda modifica nella direzione degli scambi aumentando la centralità sul mercato di alcuni paesi (Danimarca, Germania, Francia, Olanda, in parte anche l'Italia).

 
 
Simone Borghesi has published with Andrea Flori (Polytechnic of Milan) an article entitled "With or without U(K): a pre-Brexit network analysis of the EU ETS" ((https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0221587) ) on the open-access journal PLOS ONE. The article focuses on the impact that a Brexit from the European Emission Trading System (EU ETS) would have on the configuration of the European carbon market.
The UK has always played a crucial role in the EU ETS, being one of the most active national registry and a crucial hub for the exchange of allowances in the market. Using network theory, the authors investigate a few different scenarios emerging from a possible reallocation of the transactions that have involved UK partners and show how this would affect the centrality of the other countries in the EU ETS.
