The Center aims to:
a) promote and carry out research activities in the field of area studies, adopting a comparative approach to the analysis of cultural, socio-political, and historical-institutional processes in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The Center's research activity is aimed at investigating themes common to area studies and histories, relating in particular to the construction and exercise of authority, its articulations, and the repercussions of its exercise in the social and political spheres; to deepen the knowledge of actors, structures, and political, institutional, social, and cultural processes; through the analysis of pertinent phenomena in individual regional contexts, to identify continuities and discontinuities, similarities and differences;
b) create academic networks aimed at presenting research projects;
c) promote the dissemination of comparative area studies;
d) contribute to the dissemination of knowledge on long-term processes with repercussions on the present of the areas under investigation;
e) oversee the organization of study meetings and publications on the Center's themes.
