E-WORDS - Project Completed

E-WORDS: (Europa per i cittadini) dal 1° ottobre 2017 al 31 marzo 2019: coordinatori di tutto il progetto

Following the preparatory phase, the E-WORDS project (Europeans Win Ostracism: from Remembrance to a Dialogue Society) officially begins with its first scheduled activity: the joint webinars. The project was funded by the EU under the 2017 Europe for Citizens program and is coordinated by Prof. Alessandra Viviani (DiSpI).

The joint webinars represent an innovative form of informal education and are among the most effective tools in the E-WORDS activity plan.

The key concepts—Genocide and Concentration Camps, Identity, Resistance, Human Rights and Discrimination—are explored from their historical significance to their relevance in today’s Europe, fostering reflection and dialogue on cultural diversity and shared European values.

The ultimate goal is to promote peace, reconciliation and respect.

Students from the 4 partner universities of the project are the main actors of the webinars, as students of different nationalities with different cultures and education.

During the webinars, students from Krakow, Maastricht, Sibiu and Siena universities reflect and discuss on the keywords via web conference. The ultimate goal is to lay the foundation for a mutual understanding of keywords and their meaning.

Each university partner will prepare its students to discuss one of the selected keywords during the kick-off meeting in Siena:

-Cracow: genocide and concentration camps

-Maastricht: identity

-Sibiu: resistance

-Siena: human rights and discrimination

Expected results:

(1) A network of citizens (university professors and students) discussing ostracism and the loss of citizenship under totalitarian regimes from a multidisciplinary and European perspective;

(2) Reflection on how and why the meaning of the selected words has undergone changes during the 20th century;

(3) Shared meaning of the keywords underlying the E-WORDS project;

(4) Comparison of the meaning of each keyword in contemporary society;

(5) A common basis for further activities of the E-WORDS project.

The webinars will be available live on the project's Facebook page.
