Central Asia: opportunities for Italy and the European Union

On 15 April 2026, at the University of Siena (via Mattioli 10, conference room, 3rd floor), the event entitled “Central Asia: opportunities for Italy and the European Union” will take place, focusing on prospects for cooperation between Central Asia, the Caspian region and the European context.

The event will open at 11:30 am with institutional greetings from the Rector Roberto Di Pietra and the Director of the Department of Political and International Sciences – DISPI, Alessandra Viviani. Opening remarks will be delivered by the Ambassadors of the Republic of Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

From 12:30 pm, a roundtable discussion will address cooperation perspectives between Central Asia and the Caspian area, with a particular focus on relations with the European Union. The discussion will be introduced by Giorgio Malfatti di Monte Tretto and will include contributions from Andrea Coppola, Fabio Indeo and Giulio Pecora. The session will be moderated by Matteo Gerlini.

The initiative offers an important opportunity to discuss the geopolitical and economic dynamics of a strategic region, highlighting opportunities for cooperation between Italy, the European Union and Central Asian countries.
